adventures in the kitchen
Monday, September 27, 2010 Playing catch-up

A lot has happened since I last posted a recipe, the most exciting news being that our son, John Andrew, was born on August 5. He's a bundle of joy and love, but as you know, new babies also require a lot of time and energy. Over the past few months (end of pregnancy and first 7 weeks of JA's life), if I happen to have any "free time," I have chosen sleep over blogging. Well, as of today, I'm making an effort to get back into the blogging world :)

What better way to kick off my return to blogger-land than with a simple yummy snack recipie, perfect for football season!

Our family friend, Mrs. Sandy, makes this sweet chex mix and Payton loves it!!! I have a feeling you will too :)

Sweet Chex Mix (recipe found on Grouprecipies.com)
serves 10

1/2 cup margarine
1/4 cup white corn syrup
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1 regular size box Chex cereal (actually the original recipe calls for Crispix, but I used Chex)
1 bag of thin pretzels
2 cups peanuts
1 bag plain M&Ms (I did not put M&Ms in mine, but have a feeling it would be good if you want to try it)

Mix margarine, syrup and brown sugar in a large microwave safe bowl.
Microwave on HIGH for 2 minutes.
Stir and Repeat for 2 minutes.
Add vanilla and baking soda.
Stir.
Pour over cereal.
Mix and microwave for 1 1/2 minutes.
Stir and microwave for 1 1/2 minutes more.
Add peanuts and pretzels.
Stir frequently while this is cooling-or it will stick all together.
When completely cool add the M&M's.
Keep in airtight container
